This presentation will address various topics related to current practice trends in the profession of physical therapy and federal legislative issues that impact the profession.  Topics/issues will include the motions passed in the 2019 House of Delegates (HOD) and current motion concepts being proposed for the 2020 HOD. The focus of the presentation will be on the pros/cons of, impact on, and consequences of these issues on the practice of PT as a profession.  The role of the APTA and OPTA will also be addressed along with the professional responsibility of physical therapists and physical therapist assistants.

Our content leader -

Michelle Masterson, PT, Ph.D. is completing her second term as Chief Delegate for Ohio to the APTA House of Delegates.  She is active in the profession at both the national and state level, and is knowledgeable and up-to-date about the issues facing our profession and our professional organization.  She served as Northwest District Continuing Education Co-Chair from 2007-2017.  She received her Ph.D. in exercise science from the University of Toledo (UT) in 2003, an M.Ed. in Biomechanics from UT in 1993, and a bachelor's degree in physical therapy from Bowling Green State University in consortium with the Medical College of Ohio in 1984.  Dr. Masterson has been a faculty member in the Physical Therapy Program at UT since 1989; she retired from the program in 2018 and now serves as the Director of the School for the Advancement of Interprofessional Education at UT.

Mark your calendars to attend, as this event should be a great way to learn of issues affecting our profession.  Also, in lieu of the cost for the course, we will be holding a raffle to raise funds for the OPT-PAC.  Please consider giving to the OPT-PAC to represent our profession.
