The Ohio Physical Therapy Association (OPTA) Student Special Interest Group (SSIG) is hosting our first annual Student Volunteer Challenge to increase SPT and SPTA community service efforts. As healthcare professionals, we have a duty to get involved and give back to our local communities. We invite all 32 PT and PTA programs to register for the statewide Challenge today!

 When does the Challenge start?
      Who is eligible?
Programs can register and log community service hours from November 1, 2015 - April 1, 2016. View the full guidelines.
All 32 Ohio PT and PTA programs are eligible to participate in the Volunteer Challenge!

How to Register + Log Your Hours:
  1. Designate a student to be the Volunteer Rep, or primary point of contact, for your PT or PTA program.
  2. Register your program by emailing the SSIG Activities Coordinator ( with the following info:
    1. Name of Program
    2. Program Director Name + Contact Info
    3. Volunteer Rep Student Name + Contact Info
  3. The SSIG Activities Coordinator will confirm receipt, and then YOU’RE READY TO GO!
  4. To submit hours for your PT/PTA program, the Volunteer Rep should send the following info to the SSIG Activities Coordinator after completion of the volunteer activity:
    1. Name of program
    2. Number of volunteer hours

What Type of Volunteer Hours Count?

All hours for volunteer activities on behalf of the PT or PTA program will count in the Challenge.  Please abide by the following:

  • Program must be registered before hours can be logged.
  • All volunteer hours must be completed by students within that program between November 1, 2015  - April 1, 2016.
  • Volunteer hours CANNOT be related to clinical experiences or internships.
  • Fundraising activities that benefit the PT/PTA program/students CANNOT be counted.

How Are Hours Calculated?

# of hours volunteered per event X # of students from the program volunteering = Total # of Hours

What is the Prize?

In addition to bragging rights and a strong sense of pride, the top PT and PTA program with the most logged volunteer hours at the end of the Challenge will be recognized at OPTA's Annual Conference in April 2016. In addition, for the TOP OVERALL program, the OPTA will donate $250 to the charity of their choice.
